Welcome Blanche

Hi!

My name is Blanche and I am an 18 years old international volunteer at Praxis Greece. After this year abroad, I will go back to my home country which is France to study cinema. But before that, I really wanted to leave for another country and get to discover it. I indeed feel like this in between high school and university is the perfect moment to do so, because after you enter university, you don’t get many more opportunities. And according to me, travelling is the best way to broaden my horizons of the world and I felt like I actually needed that before going back to what I already knew: student life.

I also knew I wanted to do it in Greece because as my Grandfather (from my mom) was half Greek by origin, I grew up with a part of Greek culture, and wanted to know more about it. In fact, it may be a stereotype but I do see Greek people as really joyful (most of the time), people who like to gather around big tables and dinners where they can share everything and then dance all night long. And this is actually how my mother’s side of the family is. And I feel like it comes from this country my grandfather used to be obsessed about. Unfortunately, I had only got the chance to travel there once when I was very young. Thus, I deeply wanted to go back and create my own personal experience there. I thought it would also be a great opportunity to even learn more about myself.

Besides, I knew I wanted to do something significant during this gap year, but I also wanted it to make sense with my future studies. Thus Praxis was the perfect opportunity because it mixed help and media creation so it also gives me the opportunity to get more skills in this field. Moreover, I always liked helping people, I think we could say it’s my love language. But helping in this organization means a real commitment. And this is what I truly wanted to be part of: be able to make a change (even the smallest one) in this divided world.
